What are Behavioral Addictions?

Behavioral addictions are a type of addiction that involves engaging in various behaviors or activities that become compulsive and disrupt a person’s daily life. These behaviors can include but are not exclusive to, gambling, shopping, sex, porn, and more. Although behavioral addictions are not substance use, they can still lead to very similar negative consequences, such as relationship problems, impaired functioning,  financial difficulties, and emotional damage.

How do I know if I have a behavioral addiction:

  • Persistent and compulsive engagement in a particular behavior, even when it has negative consequences.
  • An inability to control or reduce the behavior, despite repeated attempts to do so.

Treatment modalities used
